About Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a montessori-based program which seeks to welcome the youngest in the church to a space in which they may grow in relationship with Christ our Good Shepherd. The atrium is a place of prayer, meditation, work, and study, in which the only Teacher is Christ, and the catechists present His Word with reverence and joyful proclamation. Every work and every presentation given in the atrium is based upon the research-based methods of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program, in which our catechists are highly trained. The themes presented in the atrium are those to which this age of child responds with depth and joy. Themes are drawn from the Bible, the liturgy, prayers, and sacraments of the Orthodox Church. Saint Herman Church currently has a Level 1 atrium for the 3-6 year-old children, and a Level 2 atrium for the 6-9 year-old children.
