Youth Group Sorts 2500 Pounds of Food for the Food Pantry of Wasilla

On Tuesday September 1, 2015, Fr. Matthew Howell and Michele Kamilos took 10 teenagers to the Food Pantry of Wasilla for a “sorting party.” In just over an hour they sorted 2500 pounds that had been collected at the Alaska State Fair, putting the food into crates with different labels such as “beans,” “vegetables,” “fruits,” etc. A couple teenagers also restocked the shelves with food from the warehouse so that clients would find what they needed the next day. At the end of the evening, the volunteers were given a couple cartons of ice cream as a thank you for their service. We look forward to more service projects with the MatSu Food Pantry!
